Jan Bingle receives top honor for philanthropic leadership

The Community Health Network Foundation Board of Directors has awarded Jan Bingle, M.S., R.N. and Community Health Network Chief Nursing Officer, the Jack Heiney Award for philanthropic leadership. For more than 25 years, Jan has generously given her time, talent and treasures to make an impact in the lives of our nurses, patients and families. Many of her colleagues, family and friends gathered at an award dinner to pay tribute to her exemplary philanthropic leadership and dedication to advancing the nursing practice at Community Health Network and central Indiana.

Jack Heiney, retired president and CEO of the Indiana Gas Company, has been a philanthropic leader in the Community Health Network for nearly 40 years. This award was created to honor his ability to inspire a culture of philanthropy and to salute other philanthropic leaders.

Community is agency-free for five years

"The doctors said his cancer was terminal. The nurses said our wedding was Monday." Full story >>

On July 1, Community Health Network celebrated its fifth anniversary of being agency-free in nursing. This accomplishment means the network has not had to rely on using outside, contracted nurses to take care of patients—even during the opening of The Indiana Heart Hospital and the Community Hospital North expansion.

“For five years, we have had Community Health Network nurses taking care of our patients,” says Jan Bingle, R.N., and chief nursing officer for the network. “This is a very, very special event, something that we should all celebrate.”

“We’re all very proud of the incredible effort that has gone into this on the part of our clinical directors and clinical managers as they work every day to make sure we have safe staffing by Community Health Network nurses,” Bingle says. “I’d also like to thank our HR team, all of our recruiters, Karen Shanks, Jill Parris and our HR consultants for working with nursing so closely to be sure that we have an exceptional experience for our new hires, our on-boarding, our recruitment as well as our orientation of new hires.”

“I can’t thank folks enough for making sure that all of our patients, wherever they are in the network, are cared for by Community nurses who exemplify the excellence of being patient-focused, using therapeutic relationships, building their practice on the art and science of nursing, being evidence-based about their intervention and also being a facilitative leader, working closely with everyone to make sure that they reach their full potential,” Bingle says. “Congratulations and thank you, thank you, thank you.”
